The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an international survey of reading achievement of fourth grade students (equivalent to Year 5 in Malta). The international population for PIRLS consists of students in the grade that represents four years of schooling, provided that the mean age at the time of testing is at least 9.5 years.
Sample surveys PIRLS is conducted as a sample survey in most participating countries.
